- Hand paring leather to make the turnover-edge almost-paper-thin
- Board cutter, for cutting book board cleanly and accurately
- The guillotine, for cutting the edges of the book block perfectly smooth (n.b. date: 1809!!)
- Machine used for rounding the book back (spine)— alternately backing boards and a rounding hammer are used
- The letter press machine for adding silver/gold/copper/or colored foil lettering to book covers & spines
- Using band nippers to outline the raised bands of a leather binding
